weekend diversity

Time for another weekend recap...lots of fun without the exhaustion some weekends come with...and tho it was another weekend in the City [not the greatest example of diversity], it was full of some adventures outside the ordinary...

  • doing basketball drills [OK, I have NO idea what this refers to...but it was on the list of highlights i put on my phone as the weekend went by and so it appears on this list...no questions asked]
  • new keys
  • oversize sushi
  • a whole bunch of the high school crew reunited
  • old skoll chillin
  • getting proof
  • finally seeing what bubble lounge is all about
  • analyzing the guys at the club
  • back to old skool chillin
  • late nite pizza with the boys
  • no 2 stop cabbie
  • brunch @ La Boulange
  • watchin' hoops
  • playin' hoops
  • 2 blocks
  • Gym up!
  • watchin' more hoops
  • NOPA
  • angry Los
  • good laughs
  • Los and his sweating out fat theory
  • back to the old skool
  • Corona in cans [ughhhh...]
  • girls from Arkansas
  • effing people up
  • finding a good place to stand
  • poking and ass slapping
  • the "Live Your Life/Let's Get It On" mashup
  • cupcakes!
  • Crab Benedict - a different approach to brunch
  • seeing the new pad
  • mini-golf!
  • trophy [pictured above] and prizes
  • time in the South Bay
  • another ride to the airport [thanks!]
  • the note [pictured below] i found on milo when i got back to Los Angeles
Sadly, I must list a couple of downers:
  • doods standing on the dance floor
  • delays at the airport
But all in all a great weekend with a variety of experiences and friends...definitely reminded of what's so great about the Bay...not that I needed it. And once again, Happy Birfday to B. Chan!

INSTRUMENT of time.

via LimitedHype

A sneak peek at the upcoming Bell & Ross INSTRUMENT BR HERITAGE. With military inspiration and a bit of an old school, classic flair...the unique wristband also sets it off.

Isetta

The Isetta is an old school micro-car...and it was awesome. It still is awesome. Isettas came in different models from different countries, with BWM putting out a popular version in the mid-1950s. Learn more about Isettas here. BWM is said to be bringing the car back as competition with Smart cars in 2010 or 2011.

I can't even begin to describe how amazing the BMW Museum in Munich, Germany looks. Not only is it amazing to see the collection of cars from over the years and all the art that alone involves...but the museum itself is a masterpiece. All I can really says is: wow. On my "must do" list if I ever make it to Munich. Read more [lots more], here.

Because we all need the ridiculous in our life.

via my friend Angela

a list of 24 everyday items in their ridiculously expensive form. it's all about taking the mundane and making it cost way more than it could ever possibly be worth, right?

thinking...sometimes require inspiration

via kanYe West

The School of Visual Arts is attempting to get people to think with its aptly titled "Think" Campaign. Everyday objects are made to look like college-ruled loose leaf paper, so u can write down your thoughts and ideas when inspiration strikes.

Altho digital is the apparent way of the future, ain't nothing wrong with film if u ask me. My first DIY camera was a classic pinhole...this is a little more upscale.

Let the Madness begin.

via hypebeast

While no longer really a possibility, a great number of hoops stars skipped college going straight for the pros. adidas' new ad campaign capitalizes on this and let's some of these big stars pick schools for March. Be sure to check out all 4 videos.

FAIL

via uncrate

The FAIL blog, like many of the other icanhascheezburger related blogs, brings it's fair share of joy to my life. And now u can bring it to life with FAIL stickers. In that signature font...run around the world making it known when all the FAILs occur. Get yours here.

Takeshi Murakami's ©Murakami exhibit is apparently on the last stop of it's world tour. It was a great exhibit to take in a while back when it was here in Los Angeles at MOCA. As an artist he has managed to tie high art and the masses unlike many others, setting a trend that many attempt to follow now. An important and influential artist you can see more of my personal thoughts at this previous post. If you can, definitely make your way to the Guggenheim in Bilbao by May 31, 2009.

new old skool

via kanYe West

an ironic take on the mp3 player. it looks like an old skool cassette tape but it's playback is all new skool as it plays mp3. but u get to relive some of that old skool magic, not only in terms of styling but also doing that twist ur finger in the hole thing to fast forward or rewing songs. comes with a case to help aid the classic look.

via The New York Times

Interesting article about taking trains cross-country. Personally I've only taken the train from Ann Arbor to Chicago (and back) a few times...as well as some train rides I don't remember from my early childhood in foreign lands. But it would be great to take some time off and make my way from California back home or even farther East one day...this article only inspires such an adventure.

television music

Last week's episode of CSI was an interesting and unique taking on storytelling...and a pretty good one. As the episode came to a close a song came on that definitely piqued the interest of my ears and after about 3 seconds I realized it was likely a Taylor Swift song...as she starred in the episode. I also figured there was a good chance it was a remix of one of her songs as it had a definite tone and styling that I wouldn't expect from her...turns out I was right but more importantly u can listen to the song on the video above and if u want to buy it, hit up iTunes. [I'm ashamed to be spreading the word about iTunes but I haven't seen the song on Amazon and am not about to tell u to go download it "illegally" off a file-sharing network. Enjoy!

past time

If you're looking for a unique watch, one most others won't have but aren't really ready to drop 4 or 5 figures on said timepiece, vintage watches are a great look and option. Still a little on the pricey side but you can easily acquire a great accessory for your wrist that is anything but ubiquitous. uncrate ppted for a sweet old school Citizen chrono but I'm personally more of a fan of the above Forstis Spaceman audacieuse. To acquire either of these pieces u'll need to go thru the eBay and looks like the pieces come from Thailand...but uncrate claims to have no problem with the piece they ordered.

Farewell to the King

via Yahoo! News

The King of Pop has decided it's time to say goodbye. A farewell set of concerts in London at the 02 Arena. He announced that the shows will be his final shows and that he'll perform the songs his fans want to hear. As crazy as he's gotten over the years, he's still the greatest and no one has reached his level since his peak. It'll be interesting to see what the King has left...

3.6.09 update: maybe the farewell already took place?

and more...

shoe art

via hypebeast

digital artworks by french artiste Phoks of "NighKees." pretty sweet collection of fully digital pieces that come close to being simple advertisements...they should be advertisements in my opinion and Nike should be so lucky. Checkout Phoks' website for more shoes and other pieces.

Why should women be the only ones to nude up? Hahaha. Full blurb here.

the future of music

via ars technica

Interesting article documenting the origins of music-oriented video games*...and showing how we got to the great enjoyable fun of games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. PaRappa the Rapper was one of the all time great games in my opinion: "You Gotta Believe!!!" I'm tempted to bust out the game right now and play it again. Intuitive, ingenious, innovative...great beats, animation, and fun. It's cool to see how far we've come.

*One line of games I think the article overlooks is the Bust A Groove series. Similar to Parappa but focused on dancing...if you combine Bust A Groove and Parappa...in many ways u take a step towards the DDR series.
